The EU could “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it calls “unjustified” visa bans issued by the United States against five Europeans working on combating digital hatred and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.
EU Officials Decry US Action as ‘Intimidation’
European leaders including Emmanuel Macron charged the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, after the visa restrictions were placed on individuals who have been central to efforts to enact legislation governing US-based technology firms.
“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to pressure US companies to suppress US perspectives they disagree with,” stated a senior US official online. “The current administration will no longer tolerate such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
