International Inquiry Finds Israeli Forces Committed Atrocities in the Gaza Strip

< lang="en">

An international investigative body determined that the Israeli government committed genocide in Gaza, stating that senior leaders such as the prime minister encouraged these actions.

Key Findings of the Investigation

The commission cited multiple examples to substantiate its genocide finding, such as the scale of killings, restrictions of humanitarian assistance, mass evacuations, and the destruction of a fertility clinic.

"Systematic destruction is occurring in the region," stated the chair of the investigative body, a former international criminal court judge.

The responsibility for these atrocity crimes rests on Israeli authorities at the highest echelons who have planned a genocidal campaign with the specific intent to eliminate the local population in Gaza.

Official Reaction

Israel refused to work with the commission, claiming it of having a political agenda targeting the country.

An official response from the foreign ministry asserted, "The nation categorically rejects this distorted and inaccurate findings and calls for the immediate abolition of this commission of inquiry."

Legal and Historical Context

The 1948 UN genocide convention, adopted after the systematic killing of Jews by the Third Reich, describes atrocities as crimes committed "with intent to eliminate, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, religious, or faith-based community."

The inquiry determined that Israeli forces had performed four of the specified acts: fatalities; inflicting serious bodily or mental harm; deliberately inflicting conditions of life designed to cause devastation; and enforcing policies aimed to reduce population growth.

Evidence and Testimonies

The conclusions were based on interviews with victims, observers, medical professionals, authenticated public records, and aerial data review gathered since the war began.

The body also concluded that remarks by top officials constituted "direct evidence of destructive aims," citing a letter comparing the Gaza operation to a "holy war of complete eradication."

Global Parallels

The head of the commission, who previously led a UN tribunal for the Rwanda atrocities, stated the circumstances were similar.

"When I look the details in the Rwandan genocide, it's very, very similar to this. You dehumanise your targets. They’re animals, and so therefore, without conscience, you can kill them," she said.

Ongoing Legal Proceedings

The nation is currently fighting a genocide case at the international court of justice in the Netherlands. It rejects such accusations, citing its entitlement to self-defence after the deadly October 7 attacks Hamas attack that killed over a thousand people and resulted in hundreds being taken hostage, according to official statistics.

The conflict in the region has resulted in the deaths of over sixty-four thousand people, as reported by the local health authorities, while a international food security agency says that sections of the area is suffering from famine.
