Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched operations across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing offensive targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any impact is unclear and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - said they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on Iran launched by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That preceding assault - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on locations linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the government.

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a number of missiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported wreckage landed in a residential area in the capital, causing some structural damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
