Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in influence within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to begin their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.
This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the group understands precisely where to go next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The traitor then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd close behind.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, desires revenge.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and warns that it is a nasty location.
- The strong character and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- But, their position as important members in the powerful family could enable the party access places they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter swore a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:
- The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and Wicander defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the clan.
This leaves them little choice but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Seekers and Strategists tables.
Viewers can anticipate finding out which players will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
